The W. Michael Larrick Memorial Scholarship fund was established in 2014 by Michael Larrick and Britney Hammond (Larrick) in memory of their father, W. Michael (Mike) Larrick, and his desire for his children to get the best education possible. In 2015 his son Michael created the Outbreak 5K, a zombie themed run to help raise money for the scholarship.
Save the Date: June 17, 2017!
The Outbreak 5k is a zombie themed race where each runner will attempt to navigate obstacles around the 3.2 mile course all while being chased by BRAIN EATING ZOMBIES!! All proceeds from the Outbreak 5k go towards the W. Michael Larrick Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, created in memory of W. Michael Larrick, helps to fund the education of students who have lost a parent or primary guardian and need assistance paying for college.
The best part of a zombie run are the zombies! Zombies are volunteers who will be trying to remove the flags from runners throughout the race. Of course you have to look the part, that’s why we have a dedicated team of makeup volunteers to give you that perfect undead look.
Can’t have a 5K with out runners! Each runner will be given two flags, similar to flag football, at the beginning of the race and will attempt to hold on to those flags throughout the duration of the race while zombies (volunteers) attempt to remove them.
Outbreak 5K 2015
Every aspect of the 5k requires volunteers. Volunteers will be stationed in registration, makeup, course support, and medical staff stations. Every volunteer will receive water and snacks for the day as well as an opportunity to help a really amazing cause, the W. Michael Larrick Memorial Scholarship.
